'Hope' is the second album by the Newcastle-based band, originally the solo-project of multi-instrumentalist Sarah Kemp. This is their second album following 2010’s ‘for every day you lost’, which quickly sold out its limited pressing. Sarah is joined on this album by Andrew Scrogham and together they recorded ‘Hope’ in a Victorian concert hall in Salford. Their music has also been featured on Second Language’s ‘Minute Papillon’ and ‘Music & Migration’ compilations alongside Peter Broderick, Vashti Bunyan, Hauschka and Dustin O’Halloran. |

Soundtracks are based in the north of England and their sound marries bleak, unsettling drones to distant tribal percussion and disembodied spoken-word vocals. The haunted, blown-out sonics of their debut album Archive: Volume One gained much praise in 2014 (Echoes & Dust: "A deep, resonant atmosphere reminiscent of Demdike Stare, Svarte Greiner and even Swans."). P J Philipson
Based: Manchester, UK Bio: P J Philipson is a guitarist and producer who plays in Starless & Bible Black (Locust Music) and The Woodbine & Ivy Band, but his solo debut on Little Crackd Rabbit Records will surprise his long-term fans. Melodic, rhythmic, inventive and spacious, Philipson's playing on this album takes its cue from innovators like Robert Fripp, Vini Reilly, Robin Guthrie, Michael Rother and Richard Skelton, but has a fully-realised concept unique to itself. Each track is titled and based around locations in England's Peak District, creating a strong sense of place and emotional attachment. |
Hypnodrone Ensemble
Based: Berlin, Germany Website Bio: Hypnodrone Ensemble are a thrilling semi-improvisational study in rhythmic, psychedelic, atmospheric spacerock. They comprise Canadian experimental/ambient guitarists Aidan Baker (Nadja, B/B/S, Caudal) and Eric Quach (aka Thisquietarmy), who have frequently performed and collaborated together, alongside a triple drummer battalion of David Dunnett (Canada), Jérémie Mortier (Belgium), and Felipe Salazar (Colombia). They have performed at Incubate Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands and have previously released via Belgium's Consouling Sounds label. Their forthcoming release The Shape Of Space also adds bassist Gareth Sweeney (Caudal). |
Black Walls
Based: Toronto, Canada Website Bio: Black Walls is the solo project of Toronto-based musician Ken Reaume. His early releases comprised a mixture of finger picked melodies (nylon and electric), ambient synths and delicate vocals. More recently, however, his music has moved into a reverb-heavy soundworld in which one can hear echoes of the artist’s fondness for powerful music from the drone-folk, black metal and post-rock worlds. His work treads a careful path though, threading together multiple ideas without being beholden to a single genre. Black Walls has played live with kindred spirits such as Low, Six Organs Of Admittance, Stars Of The Lid, Owen Pallett, Bill Orcutt and Chelsea Wolfe. The project will be touring around the release of Communion on LCR in Autumn 2014. |
